Debra R. Burgess Co-Conductor & Vocal Coach

Debra R. Burgess, Co-Conductor and Vocal Coach, brings her talents as a performer, music teacher, and choral director to the Girlchoir. She holds a B. A. E. degree with a Music Major from Pacific Lutheran University, where she sang in the renowned "Choir of the West" under Dr. Maurice Skones.
The founding director for Portland Symphonic Girlchoir's Intermezzo Choir and Prelude Singers, Mrs. Burgess has established their unique identity within the PSG family and also shares conducting responsibilities for the Premier Choir and Encore Singers. As Girlchoir's Vocal Coach, she presents fall and spring solo clinics and trains nearly 40% of its members as soloists each season. Her professional memberships include ACDA, IFCM, and MENC.
Mrs. Burgess has done postgraduate work in choral conducting and continues her conducting studies each year with Dr. Doreen Rao at the Choral Music Experience Institute for Choral Teacher Education. She has been awarded the Artist Teacher Diploma from the Association of Choral Music Education.
