Our coach, from the British company Redwing, is comfortable. It drives from the right, so we take care to deboard from the auxilliary door so we stay out of the traffic. Jason, our driver, is excellent.

We went straight from the airport to the area around the Opera Garnier. We set out to look for lunch. After a day's worth of airplane food, we were ready to something more - um, appetizing.

We found our way to the roof of the Gallery Lafayette, a huge department store. We had no trouble identifying le Tour Eiffel. Whatta view!

Lovely ladies, with the lovely Opera Garnier in the background. Paris is hot, but not impossible, although it's supposed to get hotter as the week progresses.

We had fun picking out the monuments of Paris. You can see Notre Dame on the left. The Petit Palais and the Grand Palais are toward the middle. The dome on the right is Les Invalides. So many things to see!

A gorgeous view of Montmartre. We will go there on Tuesday.
jul24-place d'italie
Date/Time: 0000:00:00 00:00:00
This is Place d'Italie. Our hotel is located a few steps away. The coach drops us here because it's too big for the little street. This is a lovely residential neighborhood. Not touisty at all. We have everything we need here - restaurants, a supermarket, shops, swimming pool, movie theaters, post office. There's an open air market on Tuesday and Friday. Of course, we won't have a lot of time here, but it's reassuring to know that it's so well located.

We walk through this little park to reach the hotel. The roses and petunias smell heavenly.

Our hotel is on Rue de la Soeur Rosalie. The taggers just can't leave a blank wall blank for very long. Although the city has cleaned up much of it for the tourist season, it's everywhere.

Some of us figured out how to climb to the roof to watch the sun set - a great view of the setting sun behind the Eiffel Tower. Oh, yeah, we're in Paris!
