Waiting in the rain.
Waiting in the rain to see the Jorvik exhibit. It was a blustry Wedensday - almost more like November than August.

It not only rained, but it poured. Thank heaven for those umbrellas we packed.

St. Helen's Square
St. Helen's Square is very beautiful. There are lots of petunia baskets and places to sit. The red house that borders one side is really beautiful. Betty's Tea Room is on this square, and many of us just had to have tea at Betty's.

This is Stonegate (Stone Street). It is one of the major shopping streets. Cute little boutiques line both sides of the raod as they compete for our pounds. The man in purple is a street performer who looks like he's being "Blown Away."

Shopping on the Stonegate
More of the crowd on Stonegate. Many of us ate dinner (a proper fish and chips with mushy peas) at the Punch Bowl, just down the street a bit.

Who's Shoes???
Guess who's shoes these are!?? A bargain at 5£, but watch out for the cobblestones! We were fortunate to hit the sales in both Paris and York.

The Golden Fleece
After dinner we took a ghost walk. We met at the Golden Fleece Inn and Public House, one of the oldest and most haunted inns in England. It was built in 1503, so it's had a lot of time to gather it's ghosties.

During the ghost walk. We walked throught some very short doorways and dark, narrow alleys to learn about some of the macabre events of York, like the ghost of the little girl whose parents boarded her up in her room and left town when she developed the plague. No wonder she haunts us still! We ended the evening with 153 people threading their way through the narrow lanes to make the last #4 bus to the university. The folks at Firstbus handled our impromptu crowd very professionally. We were so thankful, bacause we were wet, cold, and tired. Zzzz-z-z-zzzz-zzzzz!
